➔ Nearly 20 years ago The Sugarcubes established their own label Smekkleysa SM, and released their first single, “Birthday.” This was the start of the band’s splendid career and the impressive successes of Icelandic artists in Iceland and abroad that followed. These first steps taken by The Sugarcubes had a lasting impact and influence on Iceland’s export of music. It is therefore an honor for Icelandair to sponsor The Sugarcubes’ reunion in Reykjavík on 17 November 2006, for a concert to commemorate the 20th anniversary of “Birthday”. This is the first time The Sugarcubes take to the stage in 14 years, and Icelandair’s support made it possible to stage the event. All profits from the concert will go to Smekkleysa SM, which will continue to work on a non-profit basis for the future advancement of Icelandic music and artists. The concert is promoted by Mr. Destiny Ltd., producer of the annual Iceland Airwaves festival. So, in the spirit of Smekkleysa, we simply say: “World domination or death! Yes, thank you!” Icelandair Sponsors the Sugarcubes Reunion! Icelandair has now completed the switch to its new inventory system, Amadeus Altea Inventory, and its new revenue management system, Amadeus Revenue Management System by PROS. This is an integrated solution from Amadeus that complements existing Amadeus solutions used by Icelandair. These new solutions will enable Icelandair to react faster to changes in the market and to further improve its efficiency. “This means that Icelandair is better able to control its availability and prices around the world at hundreds of other airlines, tens of thousands of travel agencies and all of the main travel websites,” said Gunnar Már Sigurfinsson, SVP sales and marketing at Icelandair. “With these new solutions we have better tools to monitor supply, demand and prices. Icelandair is competing in the highly competitive international aviation market. We therefore rely on informa- tion technology to drive efficiency throughout our operations” In order to simplify the transition into this new environment, Icelandair utilized a solution developed by the Icelandic software developer Calidris that enables airlines to move all reserva- tions data, in real time, from the Altea system into the database of their choice. Once in place, the data can be stored within a data warehouse and manipulated in accordance with the needs of the airline. Calidris is an Icelandic software developer that specializes in the development of airline-spe- cific solutions. Among its customers are Icelandair, Emirates and Finnair. It is worth noting that Icelandair is the 29th airline that has made an agreement with Amadeus to use the Altea Customer Management Solution (or Altea CMS) suite of solutions. Icelandair has integrated a specific layer in Google Earth to help you “fly” between destinations and view offers and points of interest, e.g., restaurants, theaters, museums, amusement parks, etc. Next to each point of interest you will find links to useful information. All just one click away. We encourage you to visit the Icelandair website and check out this new and exciting feature. Google Earth is a mapping application like none other. This 3D program is based on satellite images, maps and the Google Search Engine. You can view satellite images in high resolution of places all over the world and easily access a great deal of information – such as maps, directions, local search and sightseeing. For details on how to use this new Icelandair service, visit your local Icelandair website.
