The premier destination for budget travelers to Iceland, Hotel Cabin offers so much
more than its low prices suggest. For the cost of a two-star room, guests are treated to
a three-star experience and a personal approach to hospitality that enhances every
aspect of their stay.
Hotel Cabin’s 174 standard rooms and 78 larger and twin rooms are a model of
understated efficiency, with new carpets and furnishings that chall enge the
visitor’s notion of what a budget hotel should feel like. All rooms are equipp ed
with wireless Internet access and television, with the deluxe class of rooms
featuring flat screens and larger bathrooms with both bathtub and shower.
Located along the shoreline, all but 100 of Hotel Cabin’s 252 rooms offer majestic
views of the bay and Mt. Esja. The superior rooms on the seventh floor, in addition to
a larger floor plan, boast panoramic windows that emphasize the landscape even
further. Guests on the other six floors can take advantage of common balconies on
each level to take in the magnificent scenery.
Dining at Hotel Cabin has become a favorite of locals, with an ample buffet/salad
bar complete with soups, pasta and hot dishes at affordable prices that have not changed
since 2003. Although there is no spa on the premises, the Cabin is but a five-minute walk
from Laugardalur, home to Reykjavík’s largest pool, day spa and fitness center.
Despite its size, the Cabin prides itself on its warm and personalized services. Much of
the staff has been at the Cabin for years, and guests are welcomed to a family atmos-
phere with top-notch concierge services. This ensures three-star services in a low-cost
package, without skimping on the basic necessities of comfort and amenities requir ed of
any hotel. Relying primarily on word-of-mouth and return visits, it has been able to establish
a reputation far exceeding its official status as a two-star location.
Hotel Cabin is honest and unpretentious, which has chosen to focus on one category
of accommodation and to do it in the most complete and luxurious way possible. Whether
arriving with high or low expectations, Hotel Cabin is sure to exceed them.
