ÁA Fishy FActs Icelanders eat 88 kg (194 lbs) of fish per person per year, a world record, according to a new survey by Íslandsbanki. The world average is 18.5 kg (41 lbs) a year. Portugal comes sec- ond with 61 kg (134 lbs), followed by Japan with 57 kg (127 lbs), South Korea with 56 kg (123 lbs) and Norway with 51 kg (112 lbs) per person per year. As a fishing nation, Iceland is number 17, while China, Peru and Indonesia top the list. Excluding Russia, Iceland is Europe’s second biggest fishing nation; only Norway catches more seafood. Aron & EmilíA Just as in 2011, the names Aron and Emilía reign supreme when it comes to names for Icelandic boys and girls born in 2012. By far the most popular second name for boys was Þór, followed by Logi and Ingi. As for the girls, Ósk was the most popular second name, alongside María. This was also the case in 2011.
