Iceland review - 2015, Side 93
ICELAND REVIEW 91
Eyjafjörður is increasingly being recognized as the best whale watch-
ing destination in Iceland. Arctic Sea Tours is at the forefront as the
only company in North Iceland offering whale watching tours all year
round. Sightings are made on 98 percent of tours, with the majestic
humpback whale seen on 94 percent of all tours, so one can surely
expect some amazing experiences.

Arctic Sea Tours is the best-rated whale watching company in Ice-
land on TripAdvisor.com, but why? The tours aren’t only about whale
watching, but set up as an adventure at sea. In a three-hour Arctic
Whale Watching tour you can expect excellent sightings of whales but
also sea angling for 10-15 minutes, fish cutting demonstration and a
taste of freshly-caught fish. Regular comments on TripAdvisor include,
“amazing experience” and “highlight of our visit to Iceland.”
sTunninG scenery
Dalvík is well situated in the middle of Eyjafjörður in North Iceland,
a 30-minute drive from Akureyri. If not for any other reason than to
see the picturesque landscape, sailing in Eyjafjörður is truly worth it.
Mountain ridges on both sides, the rock of Hrólfssker in the mouth
of the fjord and Hrísey Island, ‘the Pearl of Eyjafjörður’ in the middle,
make the scenery stunning. It can also offer protection from wind
and big ocean waves, which is excellent for inexperienced sailors.
So just imagine taking pictures of a giant whale as it dives in those
beautiful surroundings.
Arctic Sea Tours operates two beautiful oak fishing boats, new-
ly refurbished for passengers according to strict standards. Both
were built in Iceland and are good examples of Icelandic hand-
crafts.
more sea Tours
Arctic Sea Tours is expanding into other sea adventures in Ey-
jafjörður, such as: a guided tour to Grímsey Island where you can
cross the Arctic Circle, sea angling in the rich fishing grounds in
Eyjafjörður, northern lights boat tours from Akureyri and private
charter for experiencing the romantic midnight sun. Also on offer
are longer whale watching tours, visits to Hrísey Island and tours
to see one of the highest sea cliffs in Europe, Hvanndalabjarg, ris-
ing 630 meters (2,066 feet) straight up.
As Arctic Sea Tours’ slogan is “more personal, less crowded,”
their enthusiastic staff will make you feel welcome, wanting you
to have a whale of a time.
