garden is a special place
where nature dwells in har-
mony with creatures great
and small: where scented
blossoms fill the air and joy-
ous sounds of songbirds are
borne upon the wind.
A garden is a wondrous place where shin-
ing ribbons of sunlight weave their magic
spell around; the soft sound of rustling
leaves whispers its song of love and peace
to all who seek the joys within.
One of the great pleasures of life is to
walk through a garden. Here, in nature’s
bower of peace and tranquillity we can
embrace the special sights, sounds and
smells that abound in a garden. A garden
promises delights and rest from the busy
routine of working and living.
The Solskin Garden at the Icelandic
Care Home, Hofn, in Vancouver, British
Columbia was built with love by the resi-
dents of Hofn. This special garden was
dedicated to Solskin by the Icelandic Care
Home Residents Council on the occasion
of the 75th anniversary of Solskin in 1992.
It is a garden area of attractive flower beds
and shrubbery, with walkways, park
benches, a trellis, umbrella tables and
chairs to enhance the area for group gath-
erings.
Several summer gatherings have been
held at the Solskin Garden, among them a
special British Columbia Day Salmon Bar-
becue and a Father’s Day picnic where resi-
dents, families and guests enjoyed the
amenities of the garden area.
The Solskin Garden is tended with lov-
ing care by the residents of Hofn who are
able to help in this capacity, under the su-
pervision and care of volunteers and rec-
reation coordinators at Hofn.
