Fylkisstjórnin í Manitoba hefur
ákveðið 'að veita styrki til
fyrirtækja, sem hafa færri en 50
manns í vinnu, geti þau bætt við
sig starfskröftum.
Veittur verður styrkur að upphæð
$1000 fyrir hvern nýjan
starfsmann, þó ekki fleiri en þrjá.
Einnig mun stjórnin greiða 50%
af launum viðkomandi, allt að
$250 á mánuði í fjóra mánuði alls.
Telboð þetta nær til fyrirtækja sem
starfa að iðnaði, hráefnaiðnaði og
lettum iðnaði, landbúnaði, verslun,
flutningafyrirtækja og annarra,
sem starfa að ferðamálum, og
einnig þjónustufyrirtækja, hvort
heldur þau eru rekin af sveitar-
félögum eða einstaklingum innan
Manitobafylkis.
Þitt er að ákveða. Geti fyrirtæki
þitt notfært sér þetta, þá skaltu
setja þig í samband við fólk, sem
vantar vinnu, og senda okkur
síðan umsókn þína.
Umsóknír verða að berast fyrir
15. júní 1977 og þar sem ráðstöf-
unarfé er takmarkað, þá er
ráðlegast að senda umsóknir,
sem fyrst.

Enda þótt þessar aðgerðrr seu
einkum til þess ætlaðar, að auka
atvinnumöguleika skólafólks á
aldrinum 17 til 25 ára, og fyrir þá,
sem eru orðnir 55 ára eða eldri,
þá geta allir aðrir, sem eru
atvinnulausir notið góðs af. Þeir
einir koma þó til greina, sem hafa
verið atvinnulausir í að minnsta
kosti einn mánuð, eða verið í
skóla mánuðinn áður en umsóknin
er send. Einnig koma þeir til
greina, sem þiggja opinbera aðstoð
á einhvern hátt. Þá verða um-
sækjendur einnig að vera fúsir til
þess að ráða sig til lengri
en skemmri tíma.
Hafirðu áhuga, og teljirðu þig
koma til greina, þá skaltu fylla út
umsóknareyðublað og gefa þar
umbeðnar upplýsingar, og halda
síðan á fund atvinnurekenda.
En þetta skaltu gera strax.
Vínnuveitendurnir verða að vera
búnir að senda umsóknir sínar

The Town of Gimli has a
very unique first, that it has
the oldest Icelandic Public
Cemetery in North America.
Early settlers were buried
in various places but this
was their first official burial
ground.
This has been done with
some successe with financiai
assistance from the public
and in 1976 with donated
labour by the New Horizons
Club of Gimli.
The Committee graelfully
acknowledges these contri-
butions.
However certaín materials
and equipment are forever
required to be able to carrv
out this program, and the
committee solicits your help

Mrs. G. GOTTFRED HONORED BY
JON SIGURDSSON CHAPTER I.O.D.E.
At the March meeting of the Jon Sigurdson Chapter,
I.O.D.E., members presented Valdina Gottfred with a Pri-
mary Life membership along with her 25-year pin.
Soon after joining the chapter, Mrs. Gottfred was asked
to assume an office. Since that time she has served as
standard bearer, treasurer and is now Echoes Secretary and
Citizenship Secretary. Frequently she has convened the
annual fall tea at Eatons and the March birthday bridge.
While in the office of treasurer, Mrs. Gottfred was in charge
of collections for the Johanna Gudrun Skaptason I.O.D.E.
memorial fund.
Valdine Gottfred is a very talented needlewoman. She
has given the chapter two beautiful pieces of her handwork
to be raffled. The first in September 1973, a lovely needle-
point picture, was won by Dr. Peter Gaskell. The second,
in March 1977, an exquisite lace banquet cloth and serviettes
was won by Mrs. Lily Gislason of Arborg.
Valdina has earned a position of high esteem with the
members. She has the ability to make sound judgments, to
give counsel in a positive way and to show loving kindness
at all times. In a very special way she is, “just that kind of
friend.”

To lend a helping hand.
Someone who’se ready and willing
To share whatever they’ve got
And who doesn’t try to apologize
If it isn’t such a lot
Someone who helps you to believe
That you’re awfully bright and clever
And who makes you feel — deep down inside
That they’ll be your friend forever
That’s the kind of a friend you hope against hope
Will be waiting ’round the bend.
And I know I was lucky when I met you — -
