OBITUARY- Anna EYFORD
Anna Eyford passed away
suddenly on October 23, 1977
in Vancouver, BC. Anna was
born in Iceland in 1896. She
came to Canada with her
parents in 1905. The family
lived first in Baldur, Mani-
toba, then in Silver Bay,
Gimli, Oak Point, and Winni
peg, moving to Vancouver in
1938.
Anna went to Winnipeg
as a very young girl. Her
first job was an usher in the
Walker Theatre. She also
worked at the St. Charles
Country Club; had her own
hair dressing parlor on Sarg
ent Avenue; and later work-
ed as a seamsress both in
Winnipeg and Vancouver un
til her retirement in 1963.
In 1976 Anna was present-
ed with a life membership in
the Icelandic Canadian Club
of B.C., in recognition of her
long service to the Icelandic
Community. She was very
active in the Icelandic Luth-
eran Church, both in the
ladies auxiliary and in the
choir. She had always enjoy
ed very good health through
out her life. Since coming to
Canada she was able to visit
Iceland three times, first in
1930, again in 1960, and fin-
aly in 1974.
Anna will be missed by
the Icelandic Community of
Vancouver and by her many
many friends and relatives,
both in Iceland and in Can-
ada. She is survived by one
sister, Lara Olsen, and four
brothers, Halli, Fred, Chris,
and Herman. The funeral
service was held in the Ice-
landic Lutheran Church of
Christ in Vancouver.

Mrs. Grace Johnson
(Thorlakson)
Mrs Grace Johnson (Thor-
lakson) passer away in her
sleep on September 28th
1977 in Oakland, California
at the age of 82.
She leaves two sons Ro-
bert and Valdemar of Oak-
land, California and three
sisters Pauline Sigurdson of
Morden, Manitoba, Esther
Siddons and Inga Halldors-
son of Phoenix, Arizona
U.S.A. and one stepbrother
Danny Thorlakson of Winni
peg, Manitoba.
Grace was born in Moun-
tain, North Dakota Dec. 19,
1895. She took most of her
education in Canada and
tought for a few years. She
was a profoundly musical
child, and her parents en-
couraged her to study piano
and voice. Her teacher told
her she had a mezzo soprano
voice. As a member of the
First Lutheran Church she
worked tirelesly as an Ice-
landic Sunday School teach-
er as well as singing in the
choir, and doing solo work
in concerts. In 1926 she mar-
ried Mr. Björgvin Johnson
in Chicago, Illinois. — Their
marriage was not a happy
one, so they separated after
their two boys were born.
Grace dedicated most of
her life to churh activities.
During the depression she
kept house for her brother
Gunnar. When the second
World war was beginning
she moved to Oakland, Cali-
fornia where she kept house
for her other brother Walt-
er and put her sons through
High School. To make ends
meet she became a Magaz-
ine salesman who conducted
her business over the phone.
Becausee of her energy and
clever salesmanship, and
business acumen she was ac-
knowledged to be one of the
companies outstanding sales
women in the area.
She spent the last years
of her life living in several
“Convalecent Homes.”
