New working uniforms to be phased in
Phasing in of the new enlisted
blue working uniform will begin
April 1, when the Navy has auth-
orized issuing the new uniform to
recruits. This means these uni-
forms should start appearing at
Keflavik when recruits in that
group first arrive here for duty.
Z-Gram 77, the authorizing di-
rective for this move, states
that personnel E-6 and below with
over one year remaining of obli-
gated service will be provided
three sets of the new uniform at
no cost. But don't swamp Cloth-
ing and Small Stores for your new
uniforms. The free uniforms prob-
ably won't be available for issue
until June of 1972.
The Naval Station Supply De-
partment is awaiting additional
ordering instructions mentioned
in the Z-Gram,so the new uniforms
can be acquired. C&SS will an-
nounce when the new uniforms are
available for sale. Until suf-
ficient stock is on hand for free
issue, those men eligible may buy
the uniforms if they wish.
The projected date for manda-
tory use of the new uniforms is
July 1973. The present dungaree
uniforms can be worn until June
30, 1973. If the new uniform is
acquired during the optional per-
iod, parts of the old and new
uniforms cannot be interchanged.
Cuts approved
through September;
HMs, DTs exempt
Enlisted men at Keflavik, whose
EAOS is July and August, will be
separated in April and May respec-
tively in the Navy's continuing
active duty early separation pro-
gram.
As was earlier reported, per-
sonnel whose EAOS is September,
will be separated in July—only
two months early—the first in-
crement of the revised separation
schedule.
The six-month early release
program for selected ratings will
not be continued, however, this
