Do not be deceived, Mnozil Brass is not the name of a fancy new
brass knuckle for your nose, but an esteemed Austrian brass
septet (which means there are seven of them, you know). The
members of the Brass are renowned for their use of unusual
instruments such as the bass trumpet. They mix expert playing
with slapstick humour, athleticism and typical dry Austrian sass. If
this sounds bizarre and amazing enough for you, then you should
defo go. They haven’t been named ‘the hottest Austrian musical
export since Mozart’ for nothing! MC
The folk metal superband Skálmöld have been visibly absent from
the downtown party scene, cracking skulls and slaving away
on their third concept album, ‘Með vættum.’ It will be released
in November of this year and focuses on the story of a badass
female heroine Þórunn Auðna and her journey through the four
seasons of her life. The metalheads of Iceland can dry their
eyeline-stained tears and rejoice, because Skálmöld have one gig
in store for their fans. For those who don’t know the band, it is
composed of six hulking and manly Icelanders, with a penchant
for kick-ass live shows. Hel, even their name translates into “Age
Of Swords,” a time of strife in Iceland during the 13th century. You
probably won’t be the same after seeing them. MC
