New In Town

Kaffihús Vesturbæjar
Reykjavík may be divided into several neighbourhoods,
but for the most part all socialising takes place in the
town centre, a trend that the folks behind this new
local café hope to change for the west end. Situated
across the street from Vesturbæjarlaug swimming
pool and Ísbúð Vesturbæjar ice cream store, this
new bistro offers locals the chance to hobnob in a
genuine neighbourhood atmosphere. You can expect
to get great coffee from Reykjavík Roasters, delicious
pastries mostly made on-site, and to meet some of the
local celebs enjoying a hot brew. Heck, just after we
sat down, we were flanked by our very own Financial
Minister, Bjarni Benediktsson, and Moses Hightower
drummer Magnús (Maggi) Trygvason Eliassen (see our
Airwaves pullout for more on him).

Lucky Records
All freshly set up in their brand new, huge
location just next to Hlemmur, this is hands-
down the finest record store in town. Crate-
diggers will marvel and fawn over their
selection while the lay music listener can
easily pop in to pick up the latest from their
favourites. Live music and DJs are regularly
scheduled for live entertainment.

The Kraum Iceland Design store features the
best from the latest trends in Icelandic
design. Kraum sells unique items that put
an Icelandic spin on everyday objects like
stationary, wooden children’s toys, plastic
zip-lockable handbags and raincoats, and
clothing and jewellery made from wool and
other materials.
