INGÓLFSSTRÆTI 1A 101 REYKJAVÍK WWW.ISLENSKIBARINN.IS TEL: 517 6767 E D A Eating Drinking Argentína Argentína is the best place in the world for a red meat-loving person to have a special celebration. One of the oldest steak houses in town, it has worked hard to earn its name and has never wavered from its red meat loving stature. Barónsstígur 11a Café Haiti Nestled in one of the former fishing warehouses of the old harbour, Café Haiti is surely one of Reykjavík’s best cafés (and this is no mean feat, as the city has some nice coffee on offer). Go there for an excel- lent cup and some delicious light snacks during the day, or indulge in beer and low- key concerts at night. Geirsgata 7b/Verbúð 2 6 Loft Hostel With a brilliant location right in the centre of the action, the views from the upstairs bar and rooftop patio at the Loft Hostel can't be more entertaining. In addition to clean, comfortable rooms for all types of travellers, this new hostel is quickly becoming a hotspot for live music and comfortable accommoda- tion alike. Bankastræti 7 8 Reykjavík Roasters Reykjavík Roasters make the best coffee you will drink in Reykjavík. They take that stuff super seriously, roasting their beans on-site and employing folks who know just how to churn out a good cup of whatever type coffee it is you thirst for. Furthermore, the atmosphere is unique, of the kind you will only find (and grow to love) in Reykjavík. Kárastígur 1 9Kaldi Bar A small, stylish drinking hole popular with the after-work business crowd, this is a great place to feel a little classier and drink with dignity. The beer selection is top-notch, and the handcrafted interior tips the scales of upscale rustic charm. You can be certain that conversation will rule, not loud music. With large windows and light wood throughout, this is perfect for a lazy Saturday get-together or an afternoon ‘aperitivo’ after work. If you are in that part of town, head over for a warm-up. Grandagarður 23 The Coocoo's Nest5 Icelandic Fish & Chips Not your average fish’n’chips joint, this healthy restaurant uses only organic vegeta- bles and quality fish products to serve their fancy take on a fast-food classic. The spiced ‘Skyronnaise’ sauce is a special treat, and their clean, casual location by the harbour is full of charm. Tryggvagata 11 4 Sjávargrillið If you’re looking for traditional Icelandic food done right, Sjávargrillið is definitely a place to go. Gústav Gunnlaugsson, Icelandic Chef of the year 2010, is the head chef at this establishment and he does not mess around. Whether you’re a curious tourist or a native Icelander, you won’t be disappointed by any of the Icelandic dishes on this menu. Skólavörðustígur 14 3 Höfnin Spoiler alert: Seafood comes from the sea. So if you want your seafood fresh, it’s to the sea you’ve got to go. With prime real estate carved out right next to the Reykjavík marina, Höfnin (“The Harbour”) has a leg up in this game.
