What are your upcoming projects?
My upcoming projects are “happening” based,
starting with a motorcycle performance and live
film mix screening in Gallery Foe 156 in Munich,
an ongoing project by German artist Gabi Blum.
On the 8th of August I will be doing a performative
piece at Kunstraum Muenchen, further investigat-
ing the aesthetics that were first seen in my recent
performance at Kling og Bang. After that I embark
on a mini-tour through Germany and Holland with
several performance happenings alongside three
other artists in a camper bus. We decided if bands
can tour, so can we!
How important is it to you to have a studio?
I can’t make concentrated work without a studio.
For me it is important to have a space that I go to
on a regular basis, even if I’m not preparing for a
show. Similar to a writer who sits at his typewriter
4 hours a day whether or not he is writing a novel.
It is the space that holds your creative energy and
you can enter more quickly into that mindset by
making it a part of daily life. A controlled chaos that
you don’t have to clean at the end of the day. Where
you can experiment with ideas and throw them
into a corner for later dates. In the last 14 years
I’ve worked in a studio for 13 years. Studios of all
shapes and sizes and atmospheres. I work best in a
space that is well lit, has a community but also the
privacy of a locked door, and is somewhat industrial
or character-less in form.
Describe your studio:
Messy, colorful, dynamic. Crammed with boxes,
notebooks, plastic flowers, dead animals, film reels,
tools, records, costumes, cameras and old works.
What are your goals in art?
My only goal in art as in life is to never get stuck.
If you find yourself stuck in a cycle of repeat, then
make something out of it or make it a spiral.
