cluding O lafs saga Tryggvasonar, and also Skdldatal. Olafs saga helga is
transcribed from Jdfraskinna, as is the prologue. The lacunae in / are
filled in 521 with text from Kringla. 521 also contains a transcript of
Noregskonungatal from Flateyjarbok.
It was once again Asgeir Jonsson who made this transcript. Asgeir
did not go to Copenhagen until after Kringla had been lent to Torfæus,
so 521 must have been made on Karmøy. It was not, however, returned
to Copenhagen with the other manuscripts after Torfæus died. The
manuscript made its way in to the University Library in Oslo through
Professor C. R. Unger, who acquired it c. 1860 from a Dåne, the later
general Haagen V. Mathiesen, who in turn had acquired it from the
wife of an Icelandic pastor, see below p. 145. Finnur Jonsson assumed
that Arni Magnusson or Torfæus had sent the transcript to Iceland
either as a gift or in exchange for other texts. Since it was made by
Asgeir Jonsson in the service of Torfæus, it is most likely that Torfæus
was the sender.
In AM 226 a 8vo Arni Magnusson mentions a transcript of Kringla
in Asgeir Jonsson’s hånd that Torfæus supposedly sent to the Icelandic
deputy magistrate (vice logmadur) Oddur SigurSsson (1681—1741):
I einu elldra Registre sem eg hefi giort yfir bormodar bækr, finn
eg hier fyrir utan:
Snorra Sturlusonar æfi Noregs konunga, folio, med hendi As-
geirs, Ex Codice illo Academico, cui poetarum Catalogus sub-
nectitur [i. e. Kringla, my add.]. innbundid i Norege.
bad er, oefad, [5ad volumen, sem bormodur gaf sidan Oddi Sig-
urdz syne.
