A T L A N T I C A 43 ICE BAR, KAFFI REYKJAVÍK, VESTURGATA 2, 101 REYKJAVÍK The benefit of chilling spirits has long been understood by the peo- ple of countries huddled around the Arctic Circle. The drink takes on a slippery texture at lower temperatures, making it easier to imbibe. This effect contributes to the clockwork efficiency of the Nordic drinking session. It stands to reason that to further this effect, you would not only chill the alcohol, but also the person drinking it. Since October last year, the people who run Kaffi Reykjavík have been doing just that. In addition to their already popular cognac bar in the cellar, Kaffi Reykjavík has a room with walls and tables made of solid ice. The Ice Bar has a selection of flavoured vodkas and Icelandic schnapps on offer in a room set to a chilly -8 degrees centigrade. If you didn’t pack a parka, there’s no need to worry. The thoughtful owners also have a collection of insulated jackets on hand, designed by local designer María Lovísa.
