Atlantica - 01.06.2006, Blaðsíða 8
Dear Passenger,
The passenger facilities at Keflavík International Airport are being thoroughly renovated at the moment. I think
all of us who travel frequently in and out of Iceland can agree that the changes are a vast improvement and that the
airport is becoming better and better. The Keflavík International Airport, as well as the air terminal building itself, is
owned and operated by the Icelandic State and I would like to congratulate all those involved on a job well done.
We care about Keflavík International Airport. The vast majority of all the passengers going through it are
Icelandair passengers. All Icelandair’s passengers use the airport’s facilities coming into Iceland, going out of Iceland,
or just passing through on their journey across the Atlantic. The airport’s efficiency and service are an important part
of their experience and the success of our network.
There is tremendous pressure on airlines to perform better and to provide safe, reliable transport at a low cost.
Airlines have responded. Since the 9/11 crisis in 2001, the productivity of airlines within the International Air
Transport Association (IATA) has on average improved by 33 percent.
Now the airlines are calling out to others in the industry to up their performance. Infrastructure providers – such
as air navigation services, fuel suppliers, airports and governments – must have the courage to change and understand
the need to do so quickly. In order to encourage achievement, IATA this year awarded Manchester Airport (another
Icelandair destination) its Eagle Award for its high level of performance, which includes reducing the average cost per
passenger by 38 percent in four years and offering excellent service to its customers at the same time.
The renovations at Keflavík International Airport are welcomed by all of us at Icelandair. The efficiency and qual-
ity of service at the airport are as important to us as they are to our passengers.
Have a great trip.
