office building in Europe. Scaling new heights, the
Tower has nine gardens inside, one at 144 meters,
and is an energy-saving building, one of the first
ecological skyscrapers in the world.
But unless you have some serious finance to
conduct, forget about going inside. The Tower is
not accessible to the public so you’re better off
checking out the skyline from the Eiserne Steg
(Iron Foot) bridge, one of 19 bridges to cross the
Main river between the northern and southern
suburbs of Frankfurt. On the Eiserne Steg, you
can listen to street musicians playing their hearts
out for a few euros.
After a few snapshots of the cityscape, it’s time
to move on.
The woman hawking newspaper subscriptions
on the tree-lined pedestrian street – the “Zeil”
– running between the Hauptwache plaza and
the Konstablerwache plaza, tells me to go to the
Zeilgalerie mall for fun. Not a bad idea, if you
came to shop. Everything you need is in the mall,
or you can walk the boulevard to find your favor-
ite Nike shoes, Puma jacket or Chanel designs.
But, you’ve walked one tree-lined pedestrian
street you’ve walked them all.
