130 ICELAND REVIEW NORWEGIAN HOUSE THE REGIONAL MUSEUM OF SNÆFELLSNES Location: Hafnargata 5, Stykkishólmur Tel: +354 433-8114 Website: stykkisholmur.is/pages/norskahus/ Opening hours: Summer: 11:00-18:00 daily Winter: Tue, Wed, Thu 14:00-17:00 The Norwegian house, a wooden house built in 1832, was the first two-story residence in Iceland. Its name derives from the fact that the wood was imported from Norway. The house was the home of merchant and politician Árni Ó. Thorlacius (1802–1891) and his wife Anna M. Steenback (1807–1894) and has been partially renovated in its original form. The Norwegian house serves as the regional museum for the Snæfellsnes area, with local items on display in the attic and rotating exhibitions on the lower level—as well as a museum shop, featuring Icelandic design, sweets and products from the region. • Location: : Garðatorg 1, 210 Garðabær Tel: +354 512-1525 Website: honnunarsafn.is Opening hours: Tue-Sun 12:00-17:00.
