Sauðaneshús, located 7 km (4 miles) north of Þórshöfn, is the
area’s old vicarage on the church estate. It features historical, local
items and provides a glimpse of the way locals lived over a century
ago. The house, which dates back to 1879, is built of hewn grey
stone and is one of only a few such houses in the country. The
land was coveted for the benefits it offered: eider duck, salmon
and driftwood. It underwent renovation 1991-2003, funded by
the National Museum of Iceland. Refreshments are available at
the café.
