ing fignres for January 1956 are: Total: 11.131,
trawlers: 7.881, cutters: 3.250 tons.
This year’s January catch has been utilized as
follows:
T Fresh on ice, exported directly .. 4.763 tons
-• Filleted and frozen .............. 7.764 tons
3- Stockfish (dried,- unsalted) .... 80 tons
4. Salted ........................... 1.692 tons
5- Reduction ........................ 84tons
h- Other uses ....................... 153 tons
14.536 tons
Although the January catch this year com-
pares favourably with last year’s January eatch,
it must still be considered as rather poor. Last
year the conditions in January were abnormal,
as most of the cutters were bound in port owing
to the economie difficulties of the fishing indu-
stry. The weather conditions in January 1957
were on the whole unfavourable, which is the
main reason why the catch was not up to expecta-
tions.
In the above summary all weiglits are given in
metric tons of gutted fisli.
