IHYEOTOXEœSIS, AETHRITIS, AUTOIMMUNE PHŒNOMENA AND
MALIGNANCIES OF THE EETICUIOENDOTHELIAL SYSTEM IN AN IŒLANDIC

In this family, lupus erythematosus was diagnosed in one
woman and arthritis in six individuals. Besides that, rheumatic
manifestations, Eaynaud's fhenomena and allergy were coirmcn.
Thyrotoxicosis has been diagnosed in five wcmen, Hashimoto
thyroiditis onoe and suspected in other three individuals.
One woman had thyrotoxicosis, rheumatoid arthritis and
Hodgkin's disease. Her dauqhter had achylia of the stomach
at the age of 18, high thyroidea microsomal antibodies
1:25600 and chronic granulocytic leukaemia.
A study of various serum antibodies from 26 individuals
in this family was done and shcwed; Latex positive in five out
of 23, Rose Waaler in three out of 22, DNA-a in 13 out of 23,
chyroglobulin antibodies in three out of 23, thyroidea micro-
samal antibodies in seven out of 24, smooth muscle antibodies
in seven out of 15. IgG spike was found in one wcman and
Gilbert's disease in two siblings.
A hereditary defect of the immune system is suspected .
and a genetic study was undertaken and is presented in another
paper (Alfred Amason et al.) .
