NEC to give
all test results
Complete examination results
will be given by the Naval Exam-
ination Center starting February
1971. These results will include
advancement authority, allowing
commands to effect advancements
on the allowed date with no delay.
Corrections or changes of ad-
dress mailed to the Naval Exam
Center will be processed on a
daily basis to allow crows to be
sewn on quicker. Then they will
be mailed to the individual's
command within two days, cutting
down on time-consuming, mis-
directed mail.

Students fromthe Technical School of Hafnarfjordur visited the Air
Force Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory (PMEL) on February
25.
The group of 55 students from various engineering fields were
given an orientation tour of the
laboratory where PMEL calibrates
equipment used by the NATO base.
Guided tours were conducted
through the dust free working
areas by SMSgt. Donald Gerbracht,
TSgt. James Nolan and SSgt. Joseph
Wilier. The tours were high-
lighted by basic experiments in
calibration.
In one experiment the students
were shown the relationship be-
tween altitude and the boiling
point of water. Water was made
to boil at room temperature by
removing the air from a water-
filled glass container, creating
an equivalent altitude of 75,000
feet.
Another demonstration of qual-
ity control of smooth surfaces
was also given. With the use of
a special helium light, metal
surfaces were tested by passing
a high quality prism over the
surface of the metal. If the
surface of the metal is irregular,
spectrum like lines that appear
in the glass will become warped.
Electronic counters, wave an-
alyzers, and humidity control de-
vices were also part of the ori-
entation.
