245 to advance from February test
When the results of the Febru-
1971 advancement exams re-
tried last Monday, 242 Navymen
here were named for advancement.
Six will be making chief over
thenext six months as each month-
ly increment becomes effective.
NavSta totaled 115 advance-
ments — two of them to chief.
Additionally, two were author-
ized changes of rate,and two more
were designated as strikers.
The two designated strikers,
effective May 1, are: CYNSN Ken-
neth Mizell, and DKSN Dennis Sul-
livan. NavSta's lone May ad-
vancement will be Darrel Williams
to CE3.
NavSta's two CPO-selectees are
Bruce Helvie to GMTC (July) and
Raymond Parker to ENC (October).

Silver Star Medal

Air Force Capt. Thomas J. Verso has received
Silver Star Medal, the nation's third highest
t award, for action in the air over Southeast
Asia.
In September 1969, then 1st. Lt. Verso flew his
unarmed plane over an enemy position in Vietnam to
direct fighter aircraft attacks on the position. He placed himself
in the direct line of fire to better coordinate the attack. For his
action, he received the Silver Star Medal at Commander's Call last
Wednesday morning.
Capt. Verso, a native of Rochester, N. Y., is attached to the 57th
Fighter Interceptor Squadron here.

New TV gal...
Television chooses Emily
for weekday afternoon shows
Afternoon viewing on American Forces Television
will become considerably brighter, starting next
week, with the addition of Emily Burnett to the
staff.
Mrs. Burnett, a speech and Fine Arts graduate of
Wesleyan College, was selected from a field of four
women who auditioned for the female hostess posi-
tion.
"Emily's Afternoon" will debut Monday on Channel
8 at 4 p.m. Her show will consist of news, and
Bulletin Board (TV version of Calendar of Events).
She will be seen at intervals Monday through Friday
from 4-5:30 p.m.
She is the wife of the naval station assistant
security officer, Lt.(j.g.) Lewis E. Burnett..
