Ron Burr and Gerald Zameke
took first in the doubles compe-
tition. John Sheppard and Guy
Geago took second and Jay Butler
and Ed LaPorte were third.
There were 59 money winners to
share the $1,093 in prize money,
with trophies going to all first-
place finishers.
The tournament is held in the
spring of each year at the Arctic
Bowl and is opened to all male
bowlers who have an established
league average.
Singleton wins
chess matches
Chuck Singleton, a U. S. Class
"A" chess player gave an exhibi-
tion last Sunday at the 56 Club.
He played and won nine simultane-
ous matches.
The exhibition was the fea-
tured event at the weekly meeting
of the Keflavik NATO base Chess
Club that gathers each Sunday af-
ternoon for games and special
events for all who are interested
in playing games. The club is
open to all persons, regardless
of age or nationality, and is in
the process of obtaining affilia-
tion with the U. S. Chess Federa-
tion.
Youth Center
changes hours
of operation
New hours of operation have
been set at the Youth Center to
provide maximum use of the facil-
ity. The change resulted from a
survey conducted this past Novem-
ber, December and January.
The new winter hours will con-
tinue for the rest of the school
year. They are from 2:45 to 5:30
on Sunday through Wednesday; on
Thursday from 2:45 to 5:30 for
first through fifth graders and to
9 for six through 12th graders.
On Saturday it is open from 1 to
6 for first through fifth graders,
and to midnight for ninth through
12th graders.
During the winter months, the
Youth Center can be utilized for
special programs in ceramics,
folk dancing, sewing and other
hobbies and crafts on Monday,
Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.
The summer hours will begin
during summer vacation. They will
be 2:30 to 5:30 on Sundays, on
Monday through Thursday from 1 to
5:30 for first through fifth
graders and to 9 for sixth through
12th graders. On Friday, the
Youth Center will be open from 1
to 5:30 for first through fifth
graders and to 10 for sixth to
12th graders. Saturday it will
be open from 1 to 5:30 for first
through fifth graders, to 10 for
sixth through eighth graders, and
to midnight for ninth through 12th
graders.
The Youth Center plans to pro-
vide organized activities and
programs on Monday through Friday
from 9 to 11:30 a.m. during the
summer months.
Mixed league stars get trophies at bowling banquet
The Keflavik Hopefuls mixed bowling league hon-
ored its champions last Friday at the 56 Club.
Taking first place in the league was the "Puffed
Stuffins" consistingcf Peggy Wedertz, Helga Adkins,
Reid Adkins, Maurice Lantiegne and Gene Brown.
Second place went to the "Kef Five" of Ann Ray,
Judy Dominguez, Bill Dominguez, Wilbur Ray and Bob
Pratorius.
"The Bunch" took third place honors. Their squad
is: John Flemma, Judy Stokes, Lois Shipman, Fred
(Shipman and Mike Stokes.
A Individual awards went to the following men and
Kmen:
• Most Improved — Reid Adkins (+4) and Elaine
FALCON
Hart (+7).
• High Game (handicap) — Les Bates (269) and
Betty McFarland (231).
• High Series (handicap) — Maurice Lantiegne
(647) and Peggy Wedertz (631).
• High Game — Bob Pratorius (259) and Angela
Leclair (214).
• High Series — Ken Yurisich (624) and Judy
Stokes (564).
• High Average — Paul Jacobs (171) and Ann Ray
(167).
• WIBC award for high series — Ann Ray (574).
Larry Leclair won a triplicate award for bowling
three 140 games in a single series.
