Bus driver asks parents’ help
The following letter is from one of the NATO base bus drivers
who has encountered a problem which could have tragic consequen-
ces. His letter is printed here in the hope that such a catas-
trophe as he outlines will not happen. This is an open letter
to parents;
"I am a bus driver for one of the tenant commands
of the naval station. Part of my assigned bus route
takes me through the MEMO housing area. My purpose
for writing this letter is to make a public plea
for the help of the parents of little children liv-
ing in housing areas.
My bus run is just prior to the time that the
children are picked up for school. The problem is
that they run after my bus as if it is the school
bus. More than once I have almost hit one of them
while on my run. In fact, just last week a cute
little girl ran out and could have slipped under
the wheels of the bus.
"My plea is that the parents of these little ones
should instruct them not to run after any vehicle
at any time. Also the parents themselves should
insure that an adult is with them to make sure that
they do not run after a vehicle.
"Thank you very much for this space to make this
