Winter time is riding season in Iceland with thousands of horses in the stables and many horse-events going on.
Our winter program combines riding with sightseeing and other activities. Guests can warm up and taste
traditional Icelandic food after riding, stay in our comfortable country hotel, relax in the hotel‘s outdoor hot tubs
and experience the stunning Northern Lights.
During the winter season we offer a variety of riding tours ranging from 1 to 6 hours, for the in-experienced
as well as the experienced rider, for individuals and groups. We have 60-100 horses at our farm during the
winter time, doing our best to find the ideal horse for everyone. Beginners will feel comfortable and will
be able to experience the special, soft gait “tölt” on our gentle horses, while experienced riders will
enjoy the tölt on our spirited, well-trained horses.
At our farm Vellir, we have developed our activities since 1986 to combine pleasure, comfort and adventure
in a way respecting nature. Our farm is in the heart of Iceland‘s south-western countryside along Road No. 1,
only a 30 minutes’ drive from Reykjavik. The unique location between volcanic mountains, rivers and the ocean
enables our guests to experience diverse and fascintating nature on our tours.
