However, because of these minor fractures, the
values in Table 3 are probably minimum es-
timates.
Inside the mapped area, the dilation in-
creases from both ends of the fissure swarm
and is greatest near the middle. The swarm is
roughly a half ellipse in shape; it is widest and
contains most fractures near the western end
(Fig. 4a,b). There are 22 fractures in profile 1,
but only 12 in profile 4, and the latter has the
greatest dilation. The reason for this is two-
fold. First: most of the fractures that intersect
profile 1 are closed faults. Second: fractures
