Figure 8. Detail of the resistivity data showing the area of the dómhringur (despiked, highpass filtered; high
resistance = black, low resistance = white).
There is no obvious association with the
dómhringur. The abovementioned anoma-
lies partly run across the latter and do not
constitute a meaningful assemblage that
can be readily interpreted e.g., as a monas-
tic complex. Nevertheless, further investi-
gation of these areas seems worthwhile.4
Possible booth remains
One of the main aims of the surveys at
Þingeyrar was to determine whether the re-
mains of booths, which Brynjulfur Jónsson
had observed in the late 19,h century, could
be detected by resistivity measurements.
Indeed, two anomalies were encountered
4 In April 2014, geomagnetic, resistivity and GPR surveys were carried out in Þingeyrar as part of the Klaustur
á íslandi - Monasticism in Iceland project, directed by Steinunn Kristjánsdóttir. The results of these surveys
have not been published yet, but we hope the application of multiple geophysical methods may allow for
further conclusions.
