largest export product was aluminium
and aluminium products, 225,3 billion ISK
(35.6% of total exports of goods), decreased
by 3.3% (7,7 billion ISK at current prices).
Next in line to the exports of aluminum
was the export of ferro-silicon, 21,7 billion
ISK, and medicinal products, 15,3 billion
ISK. Marine products were 42.4% of all
exports of goods and exported marine
products accounted for 268,6 billion ISK, an
increase of 6.8% from 2011 (17,1 billion ISK
at current prices).
The share of EEA countries 83% in
exports of goods
The EEA was the largest market area for
Icelandic products in 2012. The share of
exports of goods to the EEA was 78.3% in
2012, has decreased from the year 2008
when it was 80.5%. The share of the EEA
countries in total imports of goods was
61.4% in 2012, compared with 64.8% in
2008. Exports of goods to EU countries was
73.2% of total exports of goods and 44.8%
of total imports came from EU countries.
Surplus in services trade
In 2012, export of services was 376 billion
ISK and the import of services 349,7 billion
ISK. Therefore, the services trade surplus
for the year 2012 was 26,3 billion ISK, was
39 billion ISK in 2011 at current exchange
rates.
Transportation was the largest category of
exports as the year before, accounting for
177,1 billion ISK or 47.1% of total exports
of services. Travel were the second largest
category of exports, 108 billion ISK or
28.7% of total exports of services in 2012.
In 2012, the largest category of imports
was also transportation, 105,9 billion ISK
or 30.3% of total imports of services. Next
in line with transportation came other
business services (the largest category
operational leasing services), 28.2% of total
imports and travel, 27.9% of total imports
of services in 2012.
There was a surplus of 71,3 billion ISK of
transportation and 10,3 billion ISK of
travel, but there was a 50 billion ISK deficit
of other business services.
EU was the largest trading partner in
2012, both with regards to exports and
imports of services. 54.3% of total exports
of services were sold to EU and 63.6% of
total imports of services were bought from
EU. Therefor was a trade deficit with EU,
18,4 billion ISK. The three largest trading
countries in both exports and imports of
services were the UK, USA and Denmark.
