COLOUR INHERITANCE IN ICELANDIC SHEEP 19 English name Dark eyerings Description Pigmented areas around the eyes, the remaind- er o£ the animal white. Icelandic name Baugótt Patches Pigmented patches left on a predominantly white background, mainly on back and sides. Flekkótt Spots Pigmented, irregularly outlined spots left on a predominantly white background. Flikrótt Drops Small, pigmented spots which develop in the undercoat and are not visible until at the age of 1—2 rnonths. Dropótt Dark head Head completely dark, neck white. Albíldótt Jacob’s markings Dark eyerings, dark spots on both sides of mouth, dark spots round and on the ears, and markings symmetrical. Jakobsbíldótt Dark cheeks Dark head with a white blaze or a white head spot and a white nose spot. Kjömmubíldótt Dark cheeks and collar As dark cheeks, but also with a dark colour on the neck. Krögubíldótt Hood Dark colour on head, neck and shoulders. Höttótt Hood and cloak As hood, but dark colour extends further back along the back of the animal. Höttukápótt Coat Dark colour on anterior and dorsal part, white on posterior and ventral part of body. Hreinkápótt Coat with white flanks As coat, but the ventral white extends upwards in one or both rear flanks. Huppukápótt Stockings All feet white, the white extending above knees, belly often white, but white is not visible to any extent on lower part of sides. Hosótt White collar and stockings As stockings, but with a white collar and white head spot and nose spot or a white blaze. Arnhosótt Eagle liead As white collar and stockings, except that head has now only dark eyerings or dark cheeks. Arnhöfdótt Socks White on feet does not extend above knee. Leistótt Dark outer socks Stockings or socks with dark colour just above the hoofs. Leggjótt Head spot White spot on top of head. Krúnótt Nose spot White spot on the nose.
