Heiðarsson, L. 2001. Site index curves for larch (L. sukaczewii
Dylis) in Fljótsdalshérað. IFRS report, 11/2002. 27 pp.
The object of this study is to produce site index curves for the de-
velopment of mean height in pure stands of Larch (L.sukaczewii
Dylis). The sample was obtained from 34 random circular sample
plots of 100 m2 in Hallormsstadur and Mjóanes eastern Iceland.
The development of the arithmetic mean height of stands has
been reconstructed by stem analysis of felled trees. The scope of
application of these site index curves is limited to the district of
inner Fljótsdalsherad in East Iceland.
The function gives the mean height development of the stand
based on biological age and site index (H100). The function has
been developed by means of non-linear regression analyses
based on the steepest descent method. In this approximative
method the criterion of the best solution is the least sum of
squares for the function. The calculation program used has been
developed by Sloboda (1971).
The conclusions are that larch plantations in Hallormsstaður are
estimated to reach 25 meters mean height on the most fertile sites
in 100 years and 17 meters on the poorest sites.
Key words: Site index, larch, Iceland.
