TAX- AND DUTY-FREE NEWS BULLETIN 96 AT L A N T I CA 11532_Pack_132x121+5.indd 1 19/01/06 15.02.35 GLASS ART The glass artist Sigrún Einarsdóttir founded the glass studio Gler í Bergvík with her husband, glass artist Sören Larsen, in 1982. Since 2003 she has run the studio alone. Sigrún has maintained a career in both visual art and crafts. Her craftwork pieces include glasses, candleholders, carafes, bowls, and more. Her visual art work spans a broad spectrum. Her objects are infused with delightful stories and are finely balanced between craft and sculpture. Sigrún has created wall works, installations and sculptures, and works in a variety of media. Ólgurnar (Turbulence) are works that tread the fine line between craft and sculpture, in which the designer honors the will of the glass and allows its qualities to be displayed at their most luminous. Sigrún has participated in a vast number of art and design exhibitions worldwide. She has also held a number of solo exhibitions and received numerous awards. The renowned trade magazine “New Glass” published an article about her work in November 2004. Gler í Bergvík is located in a beautiful setting at the foot of Mt. Esja, some 25 km from the center of Reykjavík. It is the first and only glass studio in Iceland. Sigrún’s work is sold at Gler í Bergvík, which is open by appointment, and also in Epal Design in the Leifur Eiríksson Air Terminal and the Gallery Shop at The National Gallery of Iceland, Reykjavík. THE ICELANDIC SWEATER RE-IMAGINED The new Farmers Market clothing label is the brainchild of designer Bergthóra Gudnadóttir and musician Jóel Pálsson. The line uses unique Icelandic wool, with its natural water repellant and insulating characteristics, as its primary material, combining traditional design elements with chick modernity in lightweight apparel. The pictured “Reykjahlíd” (all sweaters are named after Icelandic farms) is a zipped hooded sweater of 100% Icelandic wool. Available from July at Icelandic Giftstore/Rammagerdin at the Keflavík Airport. Visit www.farmersmarket.is for more information. 096-97 Atl306 Duty Free.indd 96 23.6.2006 12:47:39
