➔ Icelandair has officially launched its self-service kiosks in the departure area of Keflavík International Airport, the hub airport of Icelandair opera- tions. Six self-service kiosks have been placed in the departure area. These new kiosks allow Icelandair passengers to check themselves and their luggage onto flights, as well as assign themselves seats. “Our purpose with these new self-service kiosks is to increase our services and shorten the wait to check in. Everyone who’s used the air- port has noticed the greater number of passengers traveling through, and this is our response,” said Jón Karl Ólafsson, CEO Icelandair. All Icelandair passengers can use the self-service kiosks. However, it’s been the experience of other airlines that these services are most popu- lar among frequent travelers. An advanced computerized user interface should make check-in a breeze. It doesn’t matter if passengers are using regular paper tickets or electronic tickets, even though passengers that use e-tickets will find the interface particularly easy to use. For passen- gers using e-tickets it’s sufficient to key the booking confirmation number (PNR) or simply swipe the card used for identification (FOID), which in most cases is the card used for payment. The passenger is then prompted to select a seat on the plane and that concludes the check in. Average check in time is 30 to 40 seconds when utilizing the kiosks. The software developed for the kiosks was designed in cooperation with CSC, which has developed similar solutions for SAS. The kiosks are the property of Leifur Eiriksson International Airport Keflavík. “Iceland Airwaves... the hippest long weekend on the annual music-festival calendar” – David Frickle, Rolling Stone Every year a growing number of genuine music fans flock to Iceland Airwaves to experience the excitement of a festival that has earned a reputation for being the place to spot new talent. Despite the fact that Iceland has a population of only 300,000 people, over 100 exciting local performing bands and artists participate each year at the festival, both to showcase their talents to the foreign press and industry and to be part of the celebration that Iceland Airwaves has become. The winners of three Brit Awards, Kaiser Chiefs have confirmed that they will be playing the eighth Iceland Airwaves Festival, which takes place in various venues throughout downtown Reykjavík on 18- 22 October. Other acts confirmed include the multi-lingual and truly international Brazilian Girls, and Wolf Parade from Montreal whose debut “Apologies to the Queen Mary” became one of last year’s most critically acclaimed albums. Jenny Wilson and Love is All, who are just starting to make waves outside their native Sweden, are also onboard. Both established and up-and-coming local acts have been added to the bill, including Mugison, Apparat Organ Quartet, Leaves, Jakobínarína, Benni Hemm Hemm and Sign. A total of over 120 acts will perform at Iceland Airwaves 2006. Visit www.icelandairwaves.com for more information. Icelandair has started selling tickets to Iceland Airwaves 2006 through their package deals which include flights, accommodation and Airwaves festival pass.
