SEVERAL SIMPLE EXERCISES:
Bend forward slightly. Put both hands
around your right knee and raise it to your
chest. Hold this position for
15 seconds. Switch legs and repeat.
With both heels on the floor, raise your
toes as high as you can, Then put your
toes down and raise your heels.
Wiggle your ankles. Turn your feet slowly
and evenly in circles at your ankles.
Unknot your shoulders by lifting them
to your ears in a circular motion. Repeat.
Stretch your arms upward one at a time.
Repeat for each arm.
Before you fly
• Have a full night’s sleep.
• Avoid heavy meals and use alcohol moderately before a flight.
• Apply a good moisturiser to the skin.
• If you suffer from any medical conditions, consult your doctor on
whether you need to take any special precautions when flying.
During the flight
• Wear loose, comfortable clothing.
• Eat a light meal and moderate alcohol, coffee and tea intake.
• Drink water throughout the flight.
• Practise simple exercises in your seat, such as the ones provided
on this page.
When you arrive
• When arriving at your home or hotel, lie down and raise your legs.
• Take a short walk.
• Get a good night’s sleep.
Ear blockage
Ear blockage may be experienced during take-off and landing.
Yawning or swallowing usually remedies it.
Water
To maintain the body’s fluid balance, it is important to drink plenty of
water during longer flights. Moderate alcohol, coffee and tea intake
for they have negative effects on the body’s hydration.
