Variations on old themes in the autumn dusk. Gunnar Gunnarsson is at his best on this album which is highly recommended for lovers of Icelandic music. No wonder, as Gunnar was already toying with the idea of recording some of his favorite songs with three different bassists way back when his well known SKALM and STEF were released. Here the emphasis is differ- ent, with varying kinds of softness and dexterity. The colorful bass work testifies to the personal styles of Gunnar Hrafnsson, Jón Rafnsson and Tómas R. Einarsson. Gunnar Gunnarsson has a well-earned reputation for his performances in a variety of musical styles. Originally educated in church music and qualified as a cantor, he has been organist at Laugarneskirkja church in Reykjavík since 1995. Apart from traditional church music and modern arrangements and performances of religious music he has accompanied many well-known musicians and been involved in arrangements and recordings of jazz and traditional music. In recent years Gunnar has also become increasingly active as an arranger of choral music and music for vocal groups. Gunnar’s main recordings are SKÁLM (1996), STEF (1998) and DES (2003); and with saxophonist Sigurdur Flosason Sálmar lífsins (2000), Sálmar jólanna (2001), Draumalandid (2004). HÚM - DUSK Two top chefs from VOX restaurant at Nordica Hotel in Reykjavík, Siggi Gísla and Stefán Vidarsson, are the culinary consultants for Icelandair Business Class. VOX is known both internationally and locally as one of the best restaurants in Scandinavia. Siggi Gísla was the first chef to participate in the culinary compaction Nordic Challenge 2007, which emphasizes the use of Nordic products. These two friends are working together to lift Nordic cuisine to an even higher level and looking for new Scandinavian ingredients and techniques to serve clean and fresh food. It is with great pride that we at Icelandair offer our Business Class passen- gers the opportunity to enjoy the culinary expertise of these two top chefs from the VOX restaurant at the Nordica Hotel. Icelandair took away four awards at Lúdurinn, the Icelandic advertising indus- try’s awards ceremony. Icelandair, which had been nominated for ten awards, ended up receiving the highest number of accolades at this year’s event. It won in the key categories Best Newspaper Advertising, Television Advertising, Magazine Advertising and Advertising Campaign. “I’m elated by this result, which is the best that Icelandair has ever managed. It shows clearly that the Icelandic advertising and marketing industry has noticed the changes at Icelandair. I’m certain that no other Icelandic company has ever managed to win so many accolades in the same year. Now the challenge will be how to do even better this year,” said Gunnar Már Sigurfinnson, SVP Sales and Marketing at Icelandair. Awards were handed out in 14 categories and 70 ads were nominated. A total of 470 ads were considered for nomination this year, showing just how vibrant the Icelandic advertising industry is. This follows a string of awards for the Icelandair sales and marketing team. Voted Icelandic marketing company of the year in 2006 and having claimed two awards in the highly competitive online marketing arena – the International Technology for Marketing Award and the Icelandic Web Award – this latest recognition makes Icelandair one of the most highly-awarded companies in Iceland in the field of marketing.
