Iceland is the ideal location to learn how
to be an adventure guide, and Kefla-
vík-based Keilir Health Academy offers an
eight-month (60 ECTS) Adventure Sport
Certificate. It’s an intensive program that
uses Iceland’s unique natural environment,
including mountains, rivers and remote
stretches of land, as a practical classroom.
SPORTS AND ACTIVITIES
“This is the ideal program for entry-level ad-
venture students who want to explore their
interest in adventure-related fields,” says
Gabriel Côté-Valiquette, a coordinator
and lead instructor at Keilir.
The program appeals to those who are
interested in improving their current ad-
venture sports skills, want an introduction
to adventure sports, or those who wish to
explore the adventure industry as a career.
The emphasis is on field activity courses as
well as classroom instruction.
A number of thrilling activities are in-
cluded in the course, such as mountain-
eering, ice climbing, glacier skills, sea
kayaking, white water rescue, river rafting,
backpacking, hiking and winter camping.
“Another course we have is wilderness
first aid,” says Gabriel. “This is important
training for when calling for an ambulance
is not a quick solution.”

Iceland’s Adventure Guide Program
Conveniently located, only a five-minute drive from Keflavík
Airport, the Icelandic Museum of Rock ’n’ Roll offers you a
presentation of the history of Icelandic pop and rock, featuring
bands and artists, including the Sugarcubes, Björk, Sigur Rós and
Of Monsters and Men.
Don’t miss the exhibit about pop icon Páll Óskar, whose private
collection of costumes, diaries, drawings and sheet music is sure
to please.
The Rock ’n’ Roll App allows you to dig deep into the histo-
ry of every artist and listen to their music on iPads we provide.
The app offers a guided tour in Icelandic, English, French,
German and Norwegian. For larger groups, notify us in advance
at info@hljomaholl.is and we’ll prepare a reception and guide you
through the museum.
Visit the Icelandic Hall of Fame, where you’ll learn about all
the winners of the Icelandic Music Awards and hear their music.
Get an outlet for your rocking energy at the sound lab, by
trying your talent on various instruments, testing your lungs, and
proving your charm.
Visit the Rock ’n’ Roll Shop and choose from a great selection
of Icelandic music, or take home a t-shirt to prove where you’ve
been.
We know you’ll be wiped out after having given the best
concert of your life. Therefore, we suggest you end your visit

FURTHER EDUCATION
The certificate program is offered in coop-
eration with Thompson Rivers University
in Canada. Students who wish to continue
their adventure studies at TRU may move
directly into the Adventure Guide Diplo-
ma, the Adventure Management Diploma,
or the Adventure Major in the Bachelor
of Tourism Management degree. “The
course sizes are small, 13-24 people, and
students can use the credits for the sec-
ond, third and fourth year of the program
in Canada,” Gabriel adds.
