Félagsmenn í Lögmannafélagi Íslands eiga
kröfu á skýringum frá fulltrúa sínum í dómnefnd-
inni af hverju hann telur málflutningsstörf jafn lít-
ils virði og álit dómnefndar ber vitni um. Fulltrúi
LMFÍ í dómnefnd hlýtur líka að skýra fyrir félags-
mönnum ástæðuna fyrir því að ritstörf fá nú vægi
í dómnefndaráliti langt umfram það sem lög og
reglur gera ráð fyrir og áður hefur tíðkast í sam-
bærilegum álitum eða við skipun í dómaraemb-
ætti. Nefna má í þessu samhengi að við skipun í
embætti hæstaréttardómara 2003 virtist umfang
ritstarfa umsækjenda ekki vega þungt á móti
annarri reynslu.
Skilaboð dómnefndar til málflytjenda í lög-
mannastétt virðast skýr: Hafi málflytjendur hug á
að breyta um starfsvettvang er þeim rétt að beina
sjónum að öðrum störfum en embættum héraðs-
dómara. Reynsla málflutningsmanna sýnist ekki
hátt skrifuð við mat í embætti á þeim vettvangi.

EFTA Court Tenth Anniversary Essay
Competition
The EFTA Court was set up under the EEA Agreement of 2 May 1992, and took up its
functions on 1 January 1994. Its task is to ensure the uniform interpretation and
application of the EEA Agreement, and the judicial defence of the rights conferred on
individuals and economic operators by the Agreement.
On the occasion of its Tenth Anniversary in 2004, the EFTA Court invites submissions to
its Tenth Anniversary Essay Competition on the subject of
“The right of establishment of companies under EEA law”
To be eligible to participate in the competition, you must be a law student or lawyer of
less than 30 years of age and either
- a national of Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway; or
- a national of another country, studying or practising law in Iceland,
Liechtenstein or Norway.
Current and former staff members and trainees of the EFTA Court are excluded from the
competition.
Essays must be submitted in the English language, and should not exceed 7,000 words. In
addition to the text, a table of contents and bibliography are required.
Papers must reach the EFTA Court in electronic form no later than 31 July 2004,
accompanied by a short CV and your contact details, via e-mail, to the following address:

A jury composed of Judge Per Tresselt, and Legal Secretaries Dirk Buschle and Kristin
Haraldsdóttir will review all submissions and select the best paper. The winner will
receive a prize of 2,000, and will be invited to attend the EFTA Court’s Tenth
Anniversary Symposium on 21 October 2004 at the Cercle Municipal in Luxembourg.
