Dr Thordur Swinburne í Colgory
Þessi aldraði heiðursmaður er einn af félögum í “The
Leif Eirikson Icelandic Club” í Calgary, Alberta. Hann
heitir Thordur Swinburne og er nú kominn hátt á ní-
ræðisaldur. Hann er sonur Sveinbjörns Sveinbjöms-
sonar, tónskálds, sem meðal annars gerði lagið við is-
lenska þjóðsönginn, „Ó, Guð vors lands.”
Thordur Swinbum er búsettur í Calgary.
WILL THERE BE A LEFT GOVERNMENT
At press time this week, the formation of a new gov-
ernment in Iceland after June’s election still appears a
long way off.
The chairman of the Social Democrat party, Bene-
dikt Gröndal, has been requested to try to form a new
government, but the matter has not gone beyond in-
ital talks.
At first Mr. Gröndal attempted to form a coalition
with the Independence and People’s Alliance parties,
but the attempt was shortlived due to the refusal of
the People’s Alliance party to accept the proposal.
According to the latest news, Mr. Gröndal is now
trying to effect a coalition between his party, the
People’s Alliance and the Progressive parties.
Following the federal election in 1974, it took two
months for a new government to he formed. Officials
are predicting an even longer wait this time around.
