Poet’s Corner
A Real Friend Ode to Olive & Richard
By Mildred
There are people you meet on the
road of life
And you welcome them with a smile
But after a time they drift away
They can’t go that “extra mile”.
And then there are others who come
along
And you’re glad to have them near
But as soon as the goin’s a little
rough
They suddenly disappear.
But once in a while you meet some-
one
Who’s with you all the way,
Who cheers you up when your spirits
are low
And who smiles when skies are gray.
Someone who helps you say “So
what?”
When your luck goes down the drain
And who trudges along right at your
side
In the sunshine and the rain.
Someone who has the secret
Of showing “I understand”
And who never fails —
When you need it most, to lend you
a helping hand.
Someone who’s ready and willing
To share whatever they’ve got
And who doesn’t try to apologize
If it isn’t such a lot.
Someone who helps you to believe
That you’re awfully bright and clever
And who makes you feel — deep
down inside
That they’ll be your friend forever.
That’s the kind of a friend you hope
against hope
Will be waiting around the bend.
And I know I was lucky when I met
you Cause you’re just that kind of
friend.
Wíth lovo from grandson
Marc Beaulleu
He was in the inn one night about
six
He was bored so he checked out the
chicks
His name was Richard, he was a
miner
Wanted a girl, he just had to find her.
When all of a sudden he saw a fine
one
Knew that her name was Olivia
Johnson.
Wanted to date her but was afraid
she’d say no,
Finally got up his courage and said
hello.
They hit it off right then and there
He really liked her reddish blond
hair.
Next thing ya’ know they were goin’
steady
And when he felt that they were
ready
He popped the big question
And she knew he was the best one
That she could ever hope for.
He was a guy she could not ignore.
On Your
By R.V. Olafson aa a trlbute
to OHve and Rlchard Lundatrom
He was raised in Manitoba
A product of our North
Isolation wasn’t new to him
It added to his worth
He fished the northem waters
And trapped the muddy swamp
The times were hard but he was
young
It was his world to romp
The pioneering spirit
Drew him to the Red Lake Mines
Where Mukking was a way of life
Among the Lakes and Pines
She was bom a Johnson
One half of a set of twins
And she’d back up from nothing
It was the make-up of her kin
In a family of many
She leamed to work and save
And with her many talents
She made the locals rave
She was a damn fine pastry cook
When greener pastures called
The Stock Yard cafe was an early
stop
With so many cattle being hauled
Call it Mother Nature
Or do we really want to know
Why the Red Lake Inn attracted
Olive
With so many other places to go
The Wedding Bells were ringing
On that sunny day in May
And Olive’s heart was singing
For Rick had stolen it away
They built their little dream house
A log cabin in the woods
And all were made so welcome
Be it whiskey, wine or food
One year later they had a kid
Named her Sonja that’s what they
did
Little bit on they had another
Olive became a full-fledged mother
After Chrissy, Linda came on the
scene
The Madonna of the family if you
know what I mean.
Richard was proud of his three
daughters
Never wanted sons, too much of a
bother
Olive always sewed up a storm
That didn’t stop even when the kids
were born
Fabric shop in Cochenour kept her
on her toes
Now she’s retired and watches
Gretzky while she sews.
Now there’s Mosha, Serge, Ray,
Linnae
Sofie, Marc, Joel and Deanna
We all agree there could be no finer
Than that excellent cook and that
Swedish miner
Happy 50th anniversary to you
Lots of love from me and the crew.
Fiftieth
Now the first to come was Sonja
A Bombshell we all know
Her choice in life was nursing
A career that continues to grow
The next in line was Chrissie
A beam of light on a cloudy day
She’ll even take your picture
And call it a damn X-ray
Linda came into this world
With a pattem in her hand
She stormed the world of fashion
Now her “LaParka’s” known across
the land
Fifty years have come and gone
Of grandchildren there are six
The Wellesley is now called home
Not bad for a pair from the sticks
These verses are not meant to offend
you
We give our solemn oath
We wish you all the very best
And may God bless you both.
These Two
Vikings
I like to remember Olavia on the
day I moved in. I hear a voice that
could only be Icelandic and see a tall
figure, blond and fair of face. Totally
Viking! It was a wonderful welcome
to Wellesley.
These two vikings, Olavia and
Richard, have made me so welcome
at their table where there is always
laughter, good spirits and food.
Thank you Olavia and Richard.
May we have many more years of the
same.
With love,
from Solveig
