The Viking Golf Glassic
Where everyone
is a winner
by Stephen Hjalmarson
First there was the Du Maurier Golf
Classic, where our own Bea Sharpe
was one stroke off the pace and was
the winner of round trip tickets for
two to San Francisco. Then came the
Icelandic Canadian Frón 2nd Annual
Viking Golf Classic held at the Tuxedo
golf course on Saturday, September
12th.
Twenty-three top seeded players
scrambled around the course seeking a
spot in the winner’s circle. We all
knew the competition would be tough
and the cream certainly rose to the
top. Simonson, Kristjansson, Sigfusson
& Hjalmarson (sound like an account-
ing firm? maybe; golfers definitely)
tore up the course and took away the
top prizes with a one under par finish.
Following the game the group
returned for a delicious pot luck sup-
per prepared at the Scandinavian
Centre by volunteers Lauga Sveinson,
Gunnþóra Gísladóttir, Iola Nicholas,
Kendra Jonasson, Sandra Gray and
Eleanor Wainwright.
I.C.F. president Hallþor Bjornson
thanked all participants and presented
the prizes to the participants and rec-
ognized the support from our corpo-
rate sponsors Rogers Cantel Service
Centre, Rent-Way Inc. and Stemco.

"A mad, scurrilous view of the
'underworld'. Superb reading
for adult and child alike."
Illustrated by author
This is a story about two sisters,
Sara-no-hair and O-Sefanefanie,
who have nothing to do one afternoon,
and decide to dig a deep hole in the
sand, to see what might be underneath
(as most children do).
The charm in this tale lies partly in
its fantasy elements ~ nothing is
ever explained ~ partly in the playful
use of language.

tee box Ray asked them to keep it
down for a minute while he was in his
back swing. What a mistake, the jokes
now became “Quiet everybody, Ray is
hitting off”, or “Shush, Ray is about to
swing”.
Ray and his harem placed very well
with a fourth place finish. Thanks to
the booming 210 yard drives of Elaine
(but she tumed into a bit of a hooker
on her approach shots), and the dead-
ly accurate approach shots of Isabel
(mind you she putted the same dis-
tance) and the numerous one-putt
greens of our star putter Susan we did
very well. I don’t think Ray made a

drive was won by Kevin Johnson and
the closest to the pin honours were
taken by Stephen Hjalmarson.
Carl Johnson, whose team was
nicknamed the three drunks and the
sober guy (because the girls had a beer
or two on the course), was asked what
it was like to tee off with three beauti-
ful young women. He indicated that
some guys get all the luck and that he
wouldn’t miss next years toumament

this was an all new experience for him

Need Renewing
About 200 subscribers to Lögberg-Heimskringla have failed to renew
their subscriptions, although notices were sent out some time ago. On
the right-hand corner of the front page, your address label contains
information that tells you the date that your subscription expires. If the
label shows 92-07 or earlier, then next year’s payment is due. In Canada
it is $37.45 (which includes $2.45 GST); in the United States and
Iceland it is $40.
We hope that for most people this is simply an oversight, one of
those chores in a busy life that didn’t get done. If in fact you have cho-
sen not to renew your subscription, we would appreciate a brief note
telling us why. The paper is here to serve its subscribers — it has no
other reason to exist — and if we can serve you better within our means
we want to know how.
Your subscriptions and their speedy renewal are important to the
paper, cutting our administration costs and giving us the rnoney we need
to operate. Please send your renewals now.

They would say things like, no pres-

put this one on the green; or we’re all
counting on you to make this putt;
and they persisted in just cracking
jokes constantly. Finally on the fourth

3rd Annual Viking Golf Classic where
everyone has lots of fun. Don’t miss it
