Lögberg-Heimskringla - 13.12.1996, Blaðsíða 3
Lögberg-Heimskringla • Föstudagur 13, desember 1996 • 3 Betel Home Foundation undertakes preliminary studies By Irwin Olafson Over the years, the Betel Home Foundation has been committed to providing quality care to our elderly in a home-like atmosphere. These past few years, however, our homes have been providing a much heavier level of care. The Board now feels a need has developed for those who find it difficult to manage in their own homes. These individuals are not presently in need of the higher level of care provided by a personal care home. The Betel Board is undertaking preliminary studies for the construction of a “hostel” apartment building as an adjunct to the Gimli Personal Care Home. The suites would be available to elderly single persons or married couples who are having difficulty managing in their own homes. They may need some assistance to maintain an acceptable quality of life. They must be indepen- dently mobile, oriented and reasonablly capable of living on their own in a community setting. The hostel apartments will be available to all persons interested. /--------------------------------\ Greetings from Icelandair. We sendyou all our best wishes for a Peaceful Christmas and Happy New Year Come Visit Iceland — The Sightseeing Wonder! Gleðilegjól og • farscelt nýtt ár ICELANDAIR The hostel apartment may be built north of our Gimli Home and would be linked by a glassed-in corridor. Each suite would be approximately 600 square feet, comprising a kitchen with stove and refrigerator, living room, suitable dining area, a bedroom large enough for two beds, full bathroom, and a storage area. Construction and fixtures would be of high quality, compatible with our existing home. The basic rental would include heat, electricity, use and maintenance of all common areas, and use of the laundry facilities provided. Additonal services that may be requested will be billed in addition to the monthly rental fee. These services are: 1. Meals 2. Assistance can be provided, if needed, with bathing, dressing, hygiene, main- taining walking aids, etc. 3. Administration of medication, if re- quired. 4. Assistance with financial manage- ment. 5. Programs to address religious needs. 6. Recreational programs that encourage social interaction. 7. Meals can be provided, if desired, either in the common dining room or as meals-on-wheels. 8. The staff at the Betel Home can provide any nursing services that may be required. These services could include, but are not limited to, injec- tions, dressing changes, and emer- gency care. If needed, arrangements will be made with Home Care or an in-house care giver will be available. Suite cleaning and laundry service can be provided at cost. A common dining room would be incorporated into the main level for residents who wish to have meals provided. The residents would have access to the chapel, reading rooms, library, exercise and activity areas. There has been considerable dis- cussion regarding Betel’s role in main- taining and enhancing the Icelandic culture and heritage. Should there be a favourable response to this survey, and the apartments are buiit, the entire first floor would be allocated to an Icelandic Culture and Heritage Centre. In the days to come, advertisements will be placed in newspapers in Winnipeg and the Interlake. As well, a comprehen- sive information package will be available.
