6 • Lögberg-Heimskringla • Föstudagur 13, desember 1996 Seattle’s Nordic Heritage Museum The Nordic Heritage Museum in Seattle Washington is located at 3014 N.W. 67th Street in an area known as Ballard. Ballard was a small town where most of the Scandinavians including the Icelanders settled in the old days. It was incorporated into Seattle about 1909. Many Icelanders still live in this area. The Nordic Museum tells the story of the migrations of the Scandinavians to the New World and to the Pacific North-West in particular. The museum is in a converted three-storey brick school building. The school was the old Webster Grade School where many of the older Icelanders and others spent their younger years. The museum has a reputation as a national cultural center and attracts about 65,000 people a year. The top floor holds five ethnic rooms — Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark. The Icelandic Room is sponsored by the Icelandic Club of Greater Seattle. We are very proud of our room and have done some very innovative things including publishing a brochure. The brochure, offered to visitors to the Icelandic Room, was printed by John and Inga Johnson who for many years owned and operated Fortune Productions in Ballard. □ Sigurbjorn Johnson --------HSSs----------- Doing Business in Manitoba Greetings from J.
