Ivan Sand & Rust med verdens dyreste bagtæppe: I sidste uge var den danske sanger Ivan Sand & Rust på en mindre turné i Grønland. De optrådte på Hotel Arctic i Ilulissat, i Forsam- lingshuset i Aasiaat, og endelig i Klubben i Kangerlussuaq. De danske musikere havde valgt at opsætte scenen på siden i Forsamlingshuset, hvor den dan- ske maler Per Kirkebye har malet flere flotte malerier. De er vurderet til en samlet pris på 2,2 millioner kroner, så Ivan Sand & Rust har helt sikkert spillet med verdens dyreste bagtæppe. På billedet ses bandet i aktion. Executive Secretary Arctic Council Indigenous Peoples’ Secretariat The eight countries of the Circumpolar (Arctic) region, along with the 3 Indi- genous Peoples’ Organizations (IPOs) participating in the Arctic Council (AC) are seeking a person for the position as Executive Secretary for the Arctic Cou- ncil Indigenous Peoples’ Secretariat in Copenhagen, Denmark. The Arctic Council is a high level forum for promoting cooperation, interaction and coordination among Arctic States in particular issues of sustainable develop- ment and environmental protection in the Arctic. The AC aims at incorporating the traditional and cultural needs, values, rig- hts and practices of Arctic Indigenous Peoples in programmes and policies. The three IPOs that enjoy a special status as Permanent Participants in the AC are: The Inuit Circumpolar Conference, The Saami Council and the Association of Indignenous Minorities of the North, Siberia and the Far East of the Russian Federation, Jointly they represent approx. 250,000 indigenous inhabitants of the Arctic. Additional Arctic indigenous Organizations can be included to partici- pate in the work of the Arctic Council. Responsibilities The Executive Secretary of the Arctic Council Indigenous Peoples’ Secretariat will be responsible for administration, supervision and management of the Secretariat, including preparing reports and briefs as well as summarising and distribution documents of interest to the three IPOs. The Executive Secretary must ensure that the IPOs are aware of the activities, agendas and research topi- cs of the AC Working Groups. Additional responsibilities will include organizing meetings, supporting and facilitating the general dialogue between the 3 IPOs as well as maintaining pertinent documenta- tion and development of a record of Arctic Council related events and issues. Extensive travelling must be expected. The Executive Secretary will be respon- sible to a goveming Board composed of representatives from the Arctic State Govemments and the Indigenous Peop- les’ Organizations. Besides the Executive Secretary, the Secretariat consists of a Secretary and a Technical Advisor. Qualiflcations The Executive Secretary must have a thorough understanding of Arctic Indi- genous issues and politics and have extensive experience in international work and preferable in international negotiations. The candidate must have a proven record of administrative responsi- bilities and excellent qualiflcations in English (spoken and written). Knowledge of one or more of the Arctic indigenous languages is essential. Special consideration will be given to candidates with a background in interna- tional and/or environmental law or indi- genous natural resource management. Location The Arctic Council Indigenous Peoples’ Secretariat is located in Copenhagen, Denmark. Terms and Conditions The successful candidate will be offered a one year contract starting 1 April 1998.
