9 Acute myocardial infarction in St Joseph^s Hospital Lar.dakcti. Peykiavik 1976 - 1980. Ásgeir Jonsson, Gudjón Lárusson, Halldór Steinsen, Georg Bjarnason, St. Joseph's Hospital,Reykjavik. In this study are reviewed cases of acute myocard- ial infarction in St. Joseph's Hospital Landakoti, over a five year period (1976 - 1980). This has been done for comparison with a previous study in the same hospital comprising the preceding ten year period from 1966 to 1975. The results are also compared with published re- ports from the two other major hospitals in Reykja- vik. This study involves a total of 369 patients, 238 males and 131 females. The mortality in the male group was 15,9%, in the female group 28,2%, and combined 20,3%. The total mortality is slightly lower than in the previous report and similar to other reports from Reykjavik. It should be noted that the hospital keeps a com- mon diagnostic file and the study includes patients in all departments and not only those in the Medi- cal Department. Included are therefore people who were admitted for surgical reasons and who died suddenly without having had any indication of coro- nary artery disease. Also included are several old nursing patients who were initially admitted for a variety of reasons other than myocardial in- farction. Patients, dead on arrival, are included, if cardiac resuscitation was tried.
