36 GENETIC MARKERS AND PARKINSONISM IN ICELAND A. Arnason, A. Þorsteinsson 1), G. Guðmundsson 1), Ó. Jensson, I. Skaftadóttir and B. Birgisdóttir. Blood Bank and Dept. of Neurology 1), University Hospital, Reykjavik, Iceland. We have information on 93 patients, who can be divided into four main groups: A: Idiopathic Parkinsonism (n 72); B: Parkinsonism following encephalitis (n 6); C: Parkinsonism caused by trauma (n 4)} D: Parkinsonism where other signs from CNS are present before or from onset (n 11). Group A was further subdivided: I. Patients born after 1921, II. Patients born before 1921 but got their Parkinsonism before the age of 60, III. Patients born before 1921 and got their Park- insonism after the age of 60 years. Twenty one genetic marker systems were em- ployed: Blood groups, Bf, C3, Gc, Hp., Tf., AcP., GPT, GLO-1, EsD, El, E2 and HLA. Duffy blood group„ and C3 demonstrated deviat- ion from the control, C3* beeing increased in group AIII. The following antigens had higher frequency in Parkinsonism: A2, A3, B5, B15 and B37. All other systems showed no association with the disease. The genetic marker association will be further discussed.
