Opens April 18 Runs until May 10 Loftsson ‘Tesla Tune’ by Finnbogi Pétursson Finnbogi Pétursson’s 2015 project ‘Tesla Tune’ is presented as part of the Sequences Real Time Art Festival. He creates sculptures out of objects that produce electronic or acoustic sounds. ‘Tesla Tune’ brings together different sounds that all generate the same frequency. Opens April 12 Runs until April 19 ‘Wisdom and Eggs’ by Kris Lemsalu Viennese artist, Kris Lemsalu, displays her 2011 work as part of the Sequences Real Time Art Festival. Her work mocks societal truths about beauty and necessity through a variety of mediums. Opens April 11 Runs until April 19 ‘9’/Unlimited’ by Beatrice Pediconi Beatrice Pediconi’s 2013 work ‘9’/Unlimited’ is on display at Loftsson as part of the Sequences Real Time Art Festival. Her work reflects her fascination with defying gravity under water. She experiments with how different mediums interact with water from bronze to oil paint. Opens April 11 Runs until April 19 ‘Plato’s Parable of Light Astral Pavilion 3D’ by Kolbeinn Hugi Höskuldsson Kolbeinn Hugi Höskuldsson presents his new work ‘Plato’s Parable of Light Astral Pavilion 3D’ at Loftsson as part of the Sequences Real Time Art Festival. His work is grounded in sensory relativity but is influenced by dreams and a goal of aiming for the heart rather than the head. Opens April 11 Runs until April 19 ‘Margins/Mæri’ by Hekla Dögg Jónsdóttir Hekla Dögg Jónsdóttir received her MFA from the California Institute of the Arts. Through her work she looks for perfect moments when wonderful things happen in unlikely places. Her 2014 work ‘Margins/ Mæri’ is on display at Loftsson as part of the Sequences Real Time Art Festival. Opens April 11 Runs until April 19 Mengi ‘KhoiSan Medicine’ by Anne Haaning Anne Haaning received an MFA from Goldsmiths University in London. Her work deals with myths and the endless production of digital media. ‘KhoiSan’ unites her interests by applying beliefs of a Southern African aboriginal tribe to digital production and circulation. Nordic Film Festival Nordic House Sturlugata 5 (H2) | April 15-22 | Free! ‘Sequences Baby Doll Bar’ by Helgi Þórsson Helgi received an MFA from the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam in 2004. He is premiering his work, ‘Sequences Baby Doll Bar’ at the Sequences Real Time Art Festival this month. Opens April 10 Runs until April 19 Mokka-Kaffi ‘Verk á viku’ - ‘One painting a week’ by Sæþór Asmundsson Sæþór Asmundsson started his project ‘One painting a week’ last year and painted one piece of art per week. There are around 40 of the paintings on display. Opens April 11 Runs until June 13 Reykjavík Art Museum: Ásmundarsafn A children’s sculpting workshop in connection with the Reykjavík Children’s Culture Festival and Ásmundur Sveinsson’s ‘The Water Carrier-Mountain+Woman.’ Runs April 23 Reykjavik Art Museum: Hafnarhús BA Degree Show BA graduates of design, architecture and fine arts from the Iceland Academy of the Arts are showcasing their works and will host a curators’ talk on May 3 at 15:00. Opens April 25 Runs until May 10 Lecture: TALK Series Professor Mary Jane Jacob from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago will be giving a lecture as part of the museum’s TALK series Runs April 30 Reykjavik Maritime Museum Children’s Festival on the First Day of Summer As part of the children’s festival, Reykjavik Maritime Museum is hosting a treasure hunt on coast guard vessel Óðinn where children can come play and look for clues. Another treasure hunt will take place on the following weekend April 25-26, along with handicraft workshops and a photography exhibition. Opens April 23 Runs until April 26 The Reykjavík Museum of Photography ‘What I See’ by Laura Andrés Esteban Exploring the difference between what is real and what is seen, Spanish multi-media artist Laura Esteban uses photography and illustrations to communicate her vision and make people smile. Opens April 9 Runs until June 2 Sigurjón Ólafsson Museum ‘Interplay’ − thinking across sculpture and design This exhibition focuses on the relationship between the Danish architect Finn Juhl (1912-1989) and the Icelandic sculptor Sigurjón Ólafsson in the years of 1940 to 1945. Both were pioneers, each in his field, and both went unexplored paths in their experiments with form and material. Opens April 23 Runs until August 30 You like Nordic films? The humour? The actors and scenery? You’re in luck! The third annual Nordic Film Festival kicks off on Wednesday April 15 with a screening of Hrafn Gunlaugsson’s classic ‘Hrafnin flýgur’ (‘When the Raven flies’) from 1984. The rest of the week promises two to three screenings per day, with films from Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark and even one from Greenland.
