The Index of Building Cost of Dwelling;s
A new index of housbuilding cost was constructed in 1956 thereby
replacing the index base from 1939* There had been considerable
changes in the structure of housebuilding especially after the Second
World War, which made the old index base unrepresentative and building
costs thus underestimated.
In this publication all buildings have been valued in conformity
with the new index and the figures are therefore higher than indicated
in previous comparable statistics.
The following table shows the average annual unit cost per cubic
meter of dwellings according to each index base along with the average
annual index of hausebuilding cost from 1945 through 1955»
