Vogir. I vinnumarkaðskönnunum er aðeins spurt um aðra heimilismenn einu sinni á ári. Þá verður að taka tillit til þess að því fleiri sem eru á heimili á aldrinum 16-74 ára því meiri líkur eru á að einhver heimilismaður veljist í úrtakið. Árstölur um fjölda heimila eru því metnar með því að blása upp tölur í könnuninni með eftirfarandi hlutfalli: þar sem Vm er vog fyrir viðkomandi þátttakanda i skv. Greinargerð um aðferðir og hugtök. children who are 25 years or older are therefore classified in “Other households”. Coverage. Since the sample in the labour force survey only covers people aged 16-74, private households with all members over the age of 75 cannot be described. As far as estimates can tell there were 6,800 such households in 1998, an increase of 1,400 households since 1993. Errors and corrections. In the years 1994 to 1997 the respondents were only asked about the year of birth of each of the other members of the household. Further information on the date of birth is, however, necessary to estimate correctly the number of persons in the household eligible for the sample. To adjust for this the age of the other members of the household was imputed by randomly determining whether or not the birthday had passed. This method increases somewhat the confidence limits for the household estimates in the years 1994 to 1997. The new weights increase the estimated number of households by approximately one percent from previous estimates while giving by far better description of the inner composition of households, e.g., with regard to age distribution. Weights. The labour force surveys only ask questions about other household members once a year. Allowance must be made for the fact that the greater the number of household members aged 16-74, the more likely one of them is to be selected for the sample. Annual figures for the number of households are therefore evaluated by inflating the survey figures by the following proportion: 2 Vm Proportion 8.1 where V is the weighting for participant i according to the proportion 9.1 and h is the number of household members aged 16-74. The proportion must be multiplied by 2 since questions on other members of the household are only asked in April each year. Further details on concepts and methodology are found in Chapter 9.
