only given rise to 7 progeny. From tlie reci-
procal mating, S2S2 X S^S^, altogether 109
progeny have been obtained, 56 males and
53 females. The obtained frequencies of
progeny without and with white markings
agree closely with those expected, giving
the following x2’s: í°r niales, x2i = 0.071,
for females x2i = 0.472 and for both sexes
X2! = 0.083. None of these is significant.
lt must be emphasized in connection
with the results in table 57 that the varia-
tion in the extent of the white markings
in the homozygotes is enormous. In table
58 are shown the types of white markings
of progeny sliowing white markings in
table 57 classified according to the nume-
rical code used for describing the extent
of wliite markings of each individual
shown on p. 18.
As table 58 shows, the variation in the
extent of the white markings is almost con-
tinuous, from code number 10, dark eye
