In his discussion of the sources of Gregorius saga in Stockholm Perg.
fol. no. 2 Foote says that it is a conflation of excerpts, often much
abbreviated, from the Vita Gregorii auct. Johanne diacono (Bibliotheca
Hagiographica Latina [BHL] 3641) and from the earlier life by Paul
the Deacon (BHL 3640).6 Both texts are found in Acta Sanctorum
Martii //, pp. 130-210. Foote adds that parts of the material is common
to both texts and that it is difficult to apportion it precisely between
them. About the fragment of the saga in AM 238 fol. X Foote notes that
its text appears slighdy abbreviated but that it has independent value.
Indeed, a comparison of the text of AM 238 fol. X with that of
Stockholm Perg. fol. nr. 2 reveals that the fragment often has better
readings or contains material not found in the Stockholm manuscript,
as demonstrated in the following examples:
1) Lat. (BHL 3641): ... primo sub Hylarionis, deinde sub Maximiani venerabilium Patrum regimine (I, i,6)
AM 238 fol. X: ... vnder forraSi tveggia abota. fyrst hilarionis enn si&an maximiani (2vb7-9)

2) Lat. (BHL 3641): Post vero, cum subesse mallet, Fratrum votiua concordia imminente, præesse non renuit, sicut in consequentibus apparebit (I, i,6)
AM 238 fol. X: Enn epter \>at \ar hann sialfr til foRæ&is tekinn ok at allra munka vilia hot/ hann vildi heldr a/5ro m hio na (2vb9-10)

3) Lat. (BHL 3641): ... oratorium perijt, seseque cum lacrymis ... in orationem dedit (I, i,8)
