2. (57b) Mariabillede som fredsstifter er lokaliseret til Nordøstspani-
en og Frankrig. Et Mariabillede i form af en mandorla omkranset med
en indskrift: Agnus dei qui tollis peccata mundi dona nobis pacem stif-
ter fred mellem hertugen af St. Gilles og kongen af Aragonien. Fortæl-
lingen har en ret lang epilog, der ikke er komplet i L. I S efterfølges den
af en udlægning af Petrus Comestor om tre fredshilsner. Også denne le-
gende findes i D (nr. 113 uden epilog) og er hentet ordret fra SpecH
XXIX k. 27 eller tilsvarende.
Det er nærliggende at identificere legendens Raymond med den Ray-
mond de St. Gilles, greve af Toulouse og markis af Provence, der var en
af de drivende kræfter i det første korstog. Man må forestille sig, at
Raymond har ønsket at sikre sig fred på hjemmefronten, inden han drog
ud på korstoget. Derfor kan den omtalte Agnus dei-mærkat, vel at mærke
med et madonnabillede som hovedmotiv, opfattes som et pilgrimsmær-
ke, der kendetegnede det mandskab, som Raymond stillede med. Legen-
den understreger derved den forbindelse, der var imellem korstogsideen
og Mariadyrkelsen, som skinner igennem i flere Marialegender.
Der følger nogle udkast til vita af aktuelle helgener eller episoder i
deres liv.
3. (58) handler om ærkebiskop Anselm (d. 1109), der en tid fra 1063
var prior i klosterskolen Bec-Hellouin, grundlagt i 1034 af Herluin (Ms
s. 17912 og s. 47220 Hersuin). Det er værd at mærke, at legenden Little
Devil in Church her fortælles sådan, at den subdiacn, der fik øje på den
lille djævel, var Anselm selv. (I D og F er det en unavngiven subdiacn i
byen Tholetum D Ms s. 1 14226, Toletana F Ms s. 11458). AS 2/4 s. 866,
PL 158 sp. 49 og PL 159 sp. 346, mens Southern (1958 s. 190) vil have
det til at være ærkebispens nevø, der også bar navnet Anselm.

5. (60) Abbed Bernhard af Clairvaux (d. 1153). Person- og stednavne
er her afen eller anden grund i ganske særlig grad fejlagtige. Faderens
navn Tescelinus er i E blevet Oscelin, i S Olezin (Ms s. 1938). Moderens
navn Alez, Aleth eller Alaysia er blevet til Elerin (Ms s. 1939). Hvgo
